Property presentation – Converting a single-family home with KABE colours

A family from the Basel area decided to renovate their living room using the colours of Le Corbusier's Polychromie Architecturale – but the enthusiasm generated by the colour combinations was too great to limit this use to just one room. The owner of the building did not hesitate for long: he chose to extend the renovation contract immediately. This is how a renovation of the entire ground floor and the bathroom located upstairs was undertaken.

The architect Isabelle Camenzind was responsible for the renovation. She is known for paying special attention to colour balance in her designs. She plays with the possibilities offered by colours. The proportions are underlined, the spaces highlighted, a certain tension is created and the spaces suitable for rest are preserved – or even intensified.

Isabelle Camenzind defined the color concept together with the client. They decided to use arm, traditional tones from Le Corbusier's colour keyboard from 1931, while gray and ombre tones have been selected in combination with cooler, fine green tones that create contrast.

In the guest bathroom located on the ground floor, the dark, elegant red tones are the main element. They create a bright, dramatic tension. They form a wonderful frame for the view of the lush green garden and the dreamlike wallpaper with its floral world.

Sober colors are also used in the house, such as the ‘‘Ombre naturelle“ (Natural Umber) and light gray tones: they are found on door and window frames, as well as in the entrance and on the stairs.

In the bathroom located on the upper floor, red and ocher tones intertwine around the natural travertine stone, giving the room a calm atmosphere. The storage spaces located high up and the panels – a real piece of carpentry work – in ‘‘Vert anglais clair“ (Light English Green) complete the colour concept of this haven of peace.
